- Student Reporters Shine Bright: Leading with Purpose & Lighting the Way
This summer, something powerful happened in DC. Youth didn’t just participate—they led. They asked the tough questions. They covered real stories. And they became the voice of the movement.
Through the lens of student reporters, we saw what it means to make smart moves, safe choices, and lead with purpose. With every interview, podcast moment, and social media post, these young leaders weren’t just capturing summer—they were lighting a pathway forward.
“We’re not just youth walking through summer—we’re lighting the way.”
Armed with mics, phones, and bold curiosity, these DC students stepped into the spotlight to become storytellers, advocates, and ambassadors for positive change. They hit the streets, joined community events, recorded After Hours Talk episodes, and gave voice to conversations that matter—from traffic safety and nightlife to mental health and community pride.
Each report wasn’t just content. It was a message with purpose—reminding peers across the city that leadership doesn’t wait until you’re older. It begins now.
Why Youth Voices Matter
Youth-led media matters because it’s real. It reflects the world teens experience and the changes they want to see. These student reporters didn’t just report stories—they lived them. And in doing so, they inspired others to: - Thanks to the support of @dcdpr, these young reporters had the space and support to elevate youth voices in a way that was authentic, unfiltered, and deeply impactful.
- Whether highlighting local safety efforts, uplifting peer interviews, or helping shape the #GlowPledge movement, these reporters weren’t just documenting a safer summer. They were leading it.
